History

The Eldorado Library came into existence in 1923 or 1924 through the efforts of newspaper editor Harry McPherson after he learned that the State of Ohio allowed a portion of the town's operating millage could be used for the purchase of library books. Despite opposition, a designated amount was allocated for this purpose. The library was located on the east side of Main Street, not far north of Mill Street.

The town's millage supported the library financially until 1940 when Ohio enacted the Intangible Tax.

In 1959, the library helped form the Preble County District Library system. That year, the Eldorado Branch owned 5,600 books and had a circulation of 2,025 items.
